The 25th Busan International Film Festival holds a master class by renowned filmmaker Mira Nair. Nair is the head juror of this year’s New Currents section.

Master class is an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers and film industry professionals to study the oeuvre of acclaimed filmmakers and gain their insights. Unlike in the previous years, this year’s master classes are held online due to the impact of COVID-19.

Mira Nair was born in India and studied filmmaking in the United States. She afterwards continued making films in India, United States, and East Africa, creating a unique oeuvre with her point of view on each region’s culture and identity.

Nair received over 25 awards including the Caméra d’Or at the 41st Cannes Film Festival with her debut film Salaam Bombay! (1988), and she received the Golden Lion Award at the 58th Venice International Film Festival with Monsoon Wedding (2001).

Through topics such as, “Talk about her life as a filmmaker living in different places,” and “Living between worlds,” participants will be able to take a look at director Mira Nair’s life and films.

Master class with Mira Nair will take place online for about an hour on October 22nd (Thu) from 11pm KST with the 25th Busan International Film Festival selection directors and filmmakers. Hwang Hei-rim, a research fellow at the Busan International Film Festival’s Jiseok Film Institute and a producer at film studio Metaplay, is the moderator of the master class.

Master class videos will be made available on the Busan International Film Festival’s official YouTube channel.
