Ferrari presented its "812 Superfast", which shows the fastest and most powerful performance in Ferrari history, to Korea at its special event held in Yangjae-dong, Seoul on June 8 through the Korea Premier Event. Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Ferrari brand, the 812 SuperFast contains a meaning of starting a new era with the newly developed V12 6.5L engine by continuing the tradition of the Ferrari V12.

Designed at the Ferrari Design Center, 812 Superfast is the result of a reinterpretation of Ferrari's traditional V12 front engine model, capturing both its own exterior design and a pleasant interior and ride. In terms of aerodynamic design, the aerodynamic coefficient of 812 Superfast is significantly improved compared to that of F12 Berlinetta, and has the same downforce value as F12tdf, with an improved aerodynamic coefficient. The interior is designed in three dimensions, creating a sporty, avant-garde ambience, and pure racing line of aspirations and unabashed elegance.

Ferrari 812 Superfast has the fastest and most powerful engine in Ferrari history, and 6.5L naturally-aspirated V12 engine delivers up to 800 horsepower at 8,500rpm and 123 horsepower per liter. The maximum torque reaches 73.3kg.m at 7,000rpm and 80% of torque is expressed at 3,500rpm so that both the driving performance and the acceleration at low rotation are improved. In addition, 812 Superfast is the first Ferrari equipped with electronic power steering that has a function of assisting driving through the steering wheel.

▲ 812 Superfast, opening a new era, continuing the tradition of V12, and celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Ferrari brand

▲ The interior is focused on the driver but does not alienate the passenger

812 Superfast has a special meaning to open up a new era of Ferrari V12 engine, while continuing the tradition of Ferrari V12 engine that is connected to F12 berlinetta and F12tdf. It is designed in the transaxle structure with putting the engine at the front and the transmission at the back to maximize the power it has, and to distribute the car's weight efficiently. Thus, the harmony of the advanced driving equipment and the unique design of Ferrari Styling Center created the perfect aerodynamic design package.

812 Superfast was born from a reinterpretation of Ferrari's traditional V12 front engine, and did not miss either Ferrari's unique exterior design, comfortable interior or comfort. The overall silhouette is a 'high tail-two box' style with a fastback style from the roof to the trunk, visually reminding of 365GTB4 due to securing a downforce by lowering the rear spoiler. The full-LED headlamps, blending with the air intake design of the bonnet, the aggressive look of wheel arch, and the design of the tail to look shorter, emphasizes the robust appeal of the front of the car body.

The three-dimensional design of the sides is designed to make high pressure air that comes from the wheel arch through the air hole at the backside of the front wheel flow through the car door after sucking it up. The rear diffuser has been modified into a pair of upright and downward dual plane wings to increase the area, and a variable splitter at the bottom is equipped to allow air to escape between the splitter and the diffuser. The rear design inherits Ferrari's traditional design, so four round tail lamps positioned horizontally make the rear look wider and lower and more stable.

The interior is completely redesigned to have a sporty sensibility and the surface is delicately layered to create a sense of space in which important design elements float in the air and emit a desire of a pure racing pedigree and unabashed elegance. The horizontal dashboard surrounds two air vents located at the center in a stylish and sophisticated look like La Ferrari's cockpit. The air vent at the center makes dashboard look brighter and cheerful by creating a space using metallic materials.

All the components facing the driver such as the steering wheel, various controls, satellite pods, and the use of interior materials contradictory to the interactions of the space make up the best cockpit. Horizontally positioned dashboard lines make the driver's space clearer as well as having a delicate design element that does not alienate passengers. Meanwhile, the new seat is designed sportier and more ergonomically. It presents a new Human Machine Interface (HMI) that includes steering wheel, dashboard, advanced infotainment, and air conditioning unit.

▲ Front and side are designed to handle the flow of air in various forms

▲ The designs of the side and rear consider both design and aerodynamic elements

The aerodynamic coefficient of 812 Superfast was significantly improved compared to F12 berlinetta. The mobile Aero solution has a low resistance value regardless of active mobile aerodynamics by mechanical or passive mobile aerodynamics by air pressure, and its aerodynamic coefficient is improved although it has the same downforce values with F12tdf. On both sides of the front bumper, an air intake 'turning vane' that cools the engine and brakes is equipped, and it reduces the width of the side airflow and decreases the general resistance.

The front downforce is generated from a pair of diffusers located in front of the front wheels, increasing the amount of air drawn by the vehicle's undercover. In order to offset the airflow, the diffuser has a variable air system, and when the system is activated, the diffuser will stop operating. "Mobile surface", combined with the diffuser lamp, is activated by the pressure of the air, and the air come from under the outside of the bumper flows to the mobile surface. As the vehicle speed increases, when the pressure in the mobile surface increases above a certain level, the device is opened to reduce resistance and increase the front down force.

The capacity of the front diffuser for generation of downforce is due to the air flow along the sides from the front wheel arch. Side vents capture the strong airflow from the front diffuser, prevent the increase of the pressure inside the wheel arch and increase resistance to create downforce. On top of that, the air intake at the side of the headlamp maximizes this performance. At the rear of the car body, the trunk edge was designed to be 30mm higher than the F12 berlinetta and to the same position as the F12tdf for generation of downforce. In addition, through the air flow by-pass between the front of the spoiler and the quarter-glass, it becomes possible to reduce the resistance associated with the spoiler-generated downforce.

The rear wheel arch is also designed for efficient generation of downforce, and the natural lift that is created along the curved surface of the upper side of the wheel arch is minimized through the aerodynamic pathways inside the body and rear wheel arches. The airflow enters the intake behind the rear quarterlight along the car's belt line and minimizes the lift effect of the wheel arch by being connected to the duct leading to the front of the rear spoiler. In addition, the three pairs of dams that generate vortex are applied to the front of the undercover and generate 30% more downforce compared to F12 berlinetta.

The rear diffuser has been redesigned to enhance air emissions. At the trailing edge of the diffuser, the wings are deeply located inside the bumper, and the airflow generated from the lower part of the car body and the upper surface rubs against the extended splitter across the diffuser. At that time, it raises the downforce generated from the upper part up to 12%. In the rear diffuser, three active flaps move at an angle of 14 degrees, greatly reducing the overall resistance.

▲ The new 6.5L naturally-aspirated V12 engine allows 812 Superfast to achieve 0-200km/h in 7.9 seconds.

▲ It also showed some performance that symbolizes powerful performance.

The fastest and most powerful V12 Berlinetta model in Ferrari history, 812 Superfast equipped a completely new V12 engine with a maximum output of 800 horsepower, which 60 horsepower higher than F12 Berlinetta. The engine is the most powerful engine in Ferrari history, for the engine for the road model. The 6.5L naturally-aspirated V12 engine has a maximum output of 800 horsepower at 8,500rpm and a maximum torque of 73.3 kg.m at 7,000rpm, and 80% of which is expressed at the 3,500rpm level so that not only acceleration performance at low RPM but also driving ability could be much more improved. It is announced that 0-100 km/h is 2.9 seconds, 0-200km/h is 7.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is 340 km/h.

By combining 350bar's gasoline direct injection system and a variable air intake with a concept of naturally-aspirated F1 engine, it became possible to increase exhaust emissions, improve torque at lower RPMs, and satisfy emission standards. Also, through the calibration of 'Manettino' setting, which is a power transmission that is smoothly continued at all engine speeds, made it easier for drivers to take advantage of the performance. In aspect of exhaust sound, the 6-into-1 manifold is designed to amplify the sound from the engine compartment and the exhaust pipe and to balance the sound.

The 812 Superfast is equipped with F1 dual clutch transmission developed to be capable of up to maximum engine speed of 8,900 rpm, and the applied gear ratio is reduced by an average of 6%, securing higher engine speed and improving acceleration at higher gears. In addition, the reaction time has been reduced to emphasize sportiness and the gear shifting strategy has been supplemented so that you can feel the power and speed when RPM and acceleration increase. The shift time is reduced by 30% for both high and low gear shifts, and the reduced gear ratio allows the driver to feel the speed of the throttle response more immediately.

Meanwhile, 812 Superfast is the first Ferrari model to be equipped with electronic power steering (EPS), and the rear wheel steering system ‘Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0’ is integrated through SSC 5.0 version for better handling and reaction speed. Moreover, FPP (Ferrari Peak Performance) controls the movement of the vehicle when cornering and informs how close to the limit of the grip. FPO (Ferrari Power Oversteer) provides information of the vehicle through steering wheel torque when oversteering occurs and assists adjustment of the steering wheel to maintain balance of the vehicle.

Tires have been specially developed for Ferrari by Michelin and Pirelli, and their size is the same size as the tires introduced in F12tdf. Brembo Extreme Design had been fitted to La Ferrari. It is combined with high-performance ABS of 9.1 premium ESP and improved by 5.8% of braking performance at 100 km/h compared to F12 Berlinetta.
