The longest-running auction tradition of the Monterey Car Week, RM Sotheby’s flagship Monterey auction, has been the site of numerous record sales. This year, RM Sotheby’s is on track to hold another record-breaking auction on the spectacular Central California coast at the Monterey Conference Center 19-20 August.

Several notable consignments are set to be announced in the coming weeks, starting with a stunning 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/C. This third-series 275 GTB/C benefits from sparing competition use in-period, fastidious care during a former 19-year ownership, and a recent three-year comprehensive restoration, resulting in one of the most original and well-presented examples of the venerable 275-based competition.

Certified as a matching-numbers example with a Ferrari Classiche Red Book and featured in Keith Bluemel’s well-regarded book Original Ferrari V12 1965-1973, this Ferrari is accompanied by a complete set of tools, as well as an extra set of Campagnolo Fuse alloys wheels with Michelin XWX tires. Ideal for further touring enjoyment or presentation at major concours d’elegance and marque gatherings, this important and rare berlinetta would make a superlative acquisition for any Ferrari enthusiast or competition car collector (Estimate: $7,500,000 - $9,000,000).

Joining the Ferrari is a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing—the ultimate production version of Mercedes-Benz’s most iconic model. Presented in the factory-correct livery of Silver Gray Metallic over red leather and finished in handsome bumperless racing configuration, this Gullwing is the 14th of just 29 examples built and one of very few examples to retain its matching-numbers 3.0-liter NSL engine and original alloy body.

Formerly owned by 300 SL expert Hans Kleissl, proprietor of the respected HK-Engineering, this example received a comprehensive two-year restoration by Gullwing specialist Robert Platz, completed in 2017, and is a proven veteran of the Mille Miglia Storica and the Colorado Grand. Exhibited at the Amelia Island, Radnor Hunt, and Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance, this Mercedes-Benz is eligible for the finest and most exclusive vintage tours worldwide and it would make a splendid entry at major concours d’elegance.
