According to the National Center for Health Statistics in 2020 alone over 100,000 Americans fatally overdosed, with West Virginia seeing the 2nd highest increase in deaths compared to all states. According to the CDC from September 2020 to September 2021, West Virginia saw 1,284 overdose deaths, which was a slight decline from previous years.
