Berlin, 10th June 2025 - This morning, the location for the "House of Games Berlin" was officially announced in the presence of Berlin's Governing Mayor, Kai Wegner, the Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, Franziska Giffey, and around 250 representatives from the games and creative technologies industry.

The area surrounding the LUX will become a central hub: This is where the "House of Games Berlin" is being built.

Starting in 2026, numerous companies from the national and international games ecosystem will move into their new, privately owned and shared spaces at this central Berlin location at Rotherstraße 8-11 – directly adjacent to the "Warschauer Straße" S-Bahn and U-Bahn station. The necessary expansion work on the "House of Games Berlin" will begin shortly in the historic yet ultra-modern building complex. The building is currently under construction.

First tenants already announced

Numerous prospective tenants, including members of the "House of Games Berlin" steering committee, Ubisoft Berlin as anchor tenant, the USK (Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body) and Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur (Digital Games Culture Foundation), both supported by the German game association, the operator of the "House of Games Berlin," Wista Management GmbH, and medianet berlinbrandenburg e.V., as well as many other industry players, have already expressed concrete interest in renting the "House of Games Berlin" and are already in detailed contract negotiations.

The "House of Games Berlin" – a vision for the capital and beyond

The vision is to create a creative, vibrant space with the House of Games Berlin that reflects the entire games and creative technologies ecosystem. With a collaborative approach, reflected in shared spaces such as meeting and workshop rooms, podcast recording studios, lounge areas, and event spaces, new standards are being set through networking and collaboration, demonstrating the innovative power that exists in the capital region. The "House of Games Berlin" aims to generate national and international radiance and play a key role in further developing Berlin into a leading games hotspot.

The goal is to bring together a constantly growing network of national and international games studios, startups and indie studios, e-sports players, technology providers and services, agencies, associations and clubs, cultural and research institutions, and freelancers under one roof, all of whom will benefit from the numerous network effects.

Kai Wegner and Franziska Giffey explained the outstanding importance of this project for the capital region to the guests present. As a symbolic act for the location announcement, the Governing Mayor and the Senator simultaneously pressed the "Play" button on an oversized gaming controller to underscore the significance of the launch of the "House of Games Berlin."

The "House of Games Berlin" is receiving significant support from the Berlin Senate Chancellery with €4.6 million in investment funding for the expansion of the property and is also a central project of the current Berlin coalition agreement.

=====

Kai Wegner, Governing Mayor of Berlin: "With the House of Games, we are building something very special in Berlin: a location for companies, developers, and startups in the games scene. The games industry is already an important economic factor for Berlin – with annual revenues of around €250 million and more than 3,000 employees. I am certain that the House of Games will become a home for established companies, developers, and founders from Germany and around the world. Because everything comes together in this central location: history, modern infrastructure, creativity. It's the perfect mix for innovation, exchange, and development."

Franziska Giffey, Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises: "With the House of Games, Berlin will become the premier destination for the games industry in Germany. Along with FinTech, GreenTech, and HealthTech, the games industry has long been a key driver of innovation, digitalization, and economic growth in Berlin. Therefore, it is a declared goal of our economic policy to continuously expand this dynamic sector in our city. Last year alone, we provided over €6 million in state funding for the games industry and another €4 million for the visual effects sector. We intend to maintain this level in the upcoming two-year budget. We are also advocating for better games funding at the federal level. Our message to games companies, studios, startups, and developers is clear: We see you, we want you in Berlin! With the House of Games, you now have a real home in Berlin that supports networking, promotion, and visibility. This project is another step on our path to becoming Europe's number one innovation location."

Jeannine Koch, Chairwoman / Managing Director of medianet berlinbrandenburg: "With the announcement of the property and the central location for the House of Games Berlin, an important milestone has been reached for this groundbreaking project. With the "LUX," a future location for the House of Games Berlin has been identified, where a vibrant, creative space for collaboration and innovation will emerge. This growing ecosystem signals, both nationally and internationally, that where synergies and sustainable collaborations emerge, not only the companies and their stakeholders benefit, but also the entire economic power of a region. For many years, and in the future, medianet has been committed to advancing the games and creative technologies industry in the capital region and raising its visibility beyond national borders. As the leading coordinating body for the project and as the state representative of the games industry, we want to contribute to the successful realization of the House of Games Berlin. Special thanks go to the Berlin Senate Chancellery for its tremendous commitment –even in economically challenging times – and to the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Enterprises for its active support."

Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – Association of the German Games Industry: "The House of Games Berlin will create a unique venue with international appeal that will contribute to making Germany even more visible and well-known worldwide as an emerging games hub. With this project, we can work together to bring the industry's great diversity, its culture, economic power, and innovative capacity to life."

Roland Sillmann, Managing Director of Wista Management GmbH: "The ideal location for the House of Games Berlin has been found. Here, we have the perfect starting point for our project to create both an inspiring environment for the gaming companies moving in and a strong community. The central location also enables us as operators to develop an innovation ecosystem in eastern Berlin and, in collaboration with Berlin's future-oriented locations, throughout the city. As operators of innovation centers such as the Adlershof Technology Park, we will contribute our expertise to design spaces so that companies and talents have access to what they need: suitable infrastructure, networks, or opportunities for collaboration with science and technology companies."

Benedikt Grindel, Zone Managing Director, Ubisoft Production Studios: "The House of Games Berlin is a groundbreaking project for the German games industry. As a large international company, a diverse environment is important for Ubisoft to develop a location long-term. We need an ecosystem of large, medium, and small companies, a true digital game development culture. Regular informal exchange, the shared use of infrastructure, and the interaction between industry, education, science, associations, youth protection, and service providers will make the House of Games Berlin a vibrant place. For Berlin and for Germany, this is a game changer and an important building block for catching up with the major international centers of game development in the future."
