The 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) will begin its 10-day journey with Park Boyoung and Ahn Jaehong as Opening Ceremony hosts. This year, a total of 278 films from 63 countries, including 54 screenings as part of Community BIFF, will be presented on 26 screens in five theater venues, including Busan Cinema Center, CGV Centum City, LOTTE CINEMA Centum City, KOFIC Theater, and MEGABOX Busan Theater.

At the Opening Ceremony, two awards will be presented: the Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award, which is granted to a person or organization who has shown outstanding contributions to the development of the Asian film industry and culture throughout the year, and the Korean Cinema Award, which is presented to cineastes who have made a notable contribution towards the globalization of Korean cinema. In addition, the Camellia Award, newly established this year by the Busan International Film Festival and CHANEL to celebrate women in cinema and recognize their cultural and artistic contributions across Asia, will be presented at the Opening Ceremony.

The BIFF is garnering high anticipation with its various events and programs, including new works by up-and-coming as well as established directors across the globe. There will be opportunities to listen to the stories of cinematic masters including Kurosawa Kiyoshi, who will receive the Asian Filmmaker of the Year and also bring his latest films Serpent’s Path (2024) and Cloud to the BIFF this year; Miguel Gomes, whose entire body of feature films will be screened as the Special Program in Focus ‘Miguel GOMES: a filmmaker of Joyful Melancholy’; and Ann Hui, icon of the Hong Kong New Wave. Schedules for various events such as the Open Talk, Outdoor Stage Greetings, and Actors’ House have also been unveiled.

The Asian Film & Contents Market (ACFM) has newly introduced the Producer Hub in order to aid networking between industry professionals and prepared a conference to discuss the timely topic of the impact of AI on the film industry and its development, suggesting the future of the Korean and Asian content industry. Joined by the CHANEL X BIFF Asian Film Academy with its increased number of short films created, Community BIFF and BIFF Everywhere which will be celebrating cinema all around Busan’s grounds, and the Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards with an ever-wider selection of contents, the BIFF is ready to greet its audience.
